Big Island is rightfully called that because its the largest land mass in the state and still growing. In fact all the other Hawaiian islands combined would still not be as large as the Big Island. This island is also affectionately known as Hawai’i Island, this vast space is the home to every type of climate zone.
I had the pleasure to spend a weekend on the Hilo side of the island with most time spent in the area of Volcano. In fact we stayed in a treehouse just couple miles away from Volcano National Park.
Went to see the Volcano during the day and at night (an iphone does not do the volcano justice at night).
Spent some time exploring the park, a lava tube and hiking through Kilauea Iki Crater.
And our last stop before flying back to the big bad city was Akaka falls.
The weekend flew by and we really only got to see one portion of this large island, but not to worry we will be back!
Me ka hau’oli (with happiness),
