Living in a place where you’re surrounded with beauty day in and day out, it can sometimes be easy to forget how lucky we are to live in Hawaii.  But not for the owners of My Manoa, Wendy and Mike, whose love for their neighborhood in Manoa Valley  inspired the creation of their business which sells eco-friendly and upcycled products.

“We love Manoa Valley.  We wanted to do something that was a reflection of the neighborhood — natural, a little old school, and really fun. Our goal is to create local, handmade, eco-friendly items from the valley for people to enjoy and think about our beautiful neighborhood until they get a chance to come visit. Hopefully our items inspire people to upcycle and create eco-friendly items in their hometown as well,” said Wendy.

For those of you who have spent time in Manoa,  you know of the beauty that Wendy refers to.  The valley is lush, surrounded by picturesque mountain views that are kept dark green year round from the abundance of moisture and rain in the area.

“Most evenings, Mike and I go out in our yard with our dog, look at the mountains, listen to music, people watch, and maybe enjoy a few cocktails. It’s the best part of our day. Manoa in the evening is a magical place. It’s just the best place in the world to us. It just feels like home.”

Charcoal + Tea Tree Soap

In December’s box, we wanted to give you a little coal for the holiday season that we knew you couldn’t resist–even if you weren’t on the naughty list.  That’s why December’s box features two of My Manoa’s soaps–their 100% Natural Eco-Friendly Charcoal and Tea Tree Soap and their Green Tea with Lemon Soap (for those of you who were equally as nice as you were naughty).

“Activated Charcoal has so many uses. One of which is that it’s great at drawing out impurities and toxins from the skin. The tea tree adds extra dermatitis fighting properties to the soap (naturally too!) and not to mention, adds a nice a pleasant scent to it,” said Wendy.

“Green tea contains a cocktail of potent antioxidents called catechins, which help fight damage caused by free radicals as well as has a powerful anti-inflammatory effect. Lemon’s antibacterial and anti-fungal properties make the a natural alternative to treat acne.  Plus, Green Tea with Lemon is just so delicious.”

My Manoa’s soaps are also featured in our new Na Kane box with the same soaps packaged in a handy Emergency Soap Matchbook.

Love your new My Manoa soaps as much as we do?  There are a few stores on Oahu that carry them such as Sugarcane Shop, 3rd Ave. Shore, Green Mountain, and Pink Sand.  You can also find them online, where you’ll find other products such as the surf wax and coffee soaps, and follow them on Instagram @madeinmanoa, and on Twitter and Pinterest with @mymanoa.
