In Hawaii we sometimes forget how spoiled we are by the availability of fruits that we can’t find as plentiful anywhere else in the world.  We casually enjoy a papaya, picked off the neighbors tree for breakfast or a glass of freshly squeezed lilikoi juice made from the lilikois growing on the vine in the backyard.

And while we would love to send you fresh fruit in your My Aloha Post boxes, it’s also one of the few things that we canʻt send you! So, we thought in our March Wanderlust box weʻd send you the next best thing, pates de fruit from Maui Fruit Jewels that represent the very best and our favorite flavors here in Hawaii.

Maui Fruit Jewels was started by husband and wife team Chris and Lin.  Lin, received her pastry diploma at Le Cordon Bleu in London, and was always interested in local food specialties wherever she traveled.  When Lin moved to Maui in 2012 and discovered the amazing fruit flavors that we all know and love here she knew it was the perfect opportunity to focus on creating a delicious confection that could be made by using fresh fruits with only a few other ingredients, without food colors, flavorings or preservatives.

Once she got started she made pates de fruits with every fruit and even vegetable she could find.  Aside from flavors you might expect such as lilikoi, pineapple and papaya, Maui Fruit Jewels also creates more unusual flavors like beet, noni, red bell pepper, Hawaii chili pepper with pineapple and flavors featuring local beers and wines.

If you’re lucky enough to live on or visit Maui, you’ll most likely find this delightful couple at the Upcountry Farmers Market in Pukalani.  Not scheduled for a trip to the Valley Isle anytime soon? You can get more of their products on their website and stay up to date with them on Facebook.
